VISUALIZING EARTH is an exhibition project consisting of photographically derived art works created by Stephen Harrison. The images depict the history of our planet from its early beginnings to the present time. The exhibition is divided into three sections.
"In the Beginning" presents a mythical representation of the creation of Earth. Five billion years of transformation depict vast epochs of geographic stability punctuated by outbursts of violent upheaval and chaos. Metaphors of earth, fire and water are employed to depict the phenomena of mystery, beauty, eruption, violence and change.
"The Mystery of Life" involves the timeless explosion of biological forms continuously evolving over billions of years. Revealed are fundamental processes : birth, sustenance, procreation and ultimely death. The images evoke feelings of the sacred and the wonderment of the boundless, mysterious and infinite incarnations of the life force.
"In the Shadow of Man" concludes the exhibition revealing the imprint of human presence. The overepowering nature of technical marvels staggers the imagination in terms of size and sophistication. Newborn hi tech industrial creations overwhelm fragile environmental forces evolved over billions of years. How will this complex interaction continue to unfold?
